A songwriter who builds her own world

Brennet’s work reaches beyond the conventional voice-and-guitar format. Her live performances combine acoustic guitar with loops, delays, keyboards, foot percussion, vocal processing, and percussive tapping, building a one-person soundscape around lyrics that remain intimate and direct.

After moving to Arizona to study choral conducting, she chose songwriting and independent production as her path. Since her 2002 debut, Boy in a Dress, she has written, recorded, produced, engineered, and released an extensive catalog through her own labels. Her music moves through folk, rock, blues, acoustic performance, piano-based composition, and pop without losing its authorial center.

Nine songs from the collection

  • Brother Moses
  • Dust on the Radio
  • Fly Like Everyone
  • Iowa
  • Last Night
  • Long Letter
  • We Belong
  • What a Good Life
  • You Will

The set captures the breadth of Brennet’s songwriting: road-worn observation, desert imagery, character, vulnerability, and melodies strong enough to carry both a spare arrangement and a layered live treatment.

Recognition and reach

Brennet is a four-time Outmusic Award nominee, a Tucson Folk Festival Songwriting Award recipient, and an inaugural Trans 100 honoree. Her music has appeared on NPR and PBS and in the Emmy-winning documentary Out in the Silence. Years of touring have carried her songs across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Mexico.

Moving Pictures and the 2026 chapter

Brennet released the 14-song album Moving Pictures on February 17, 2026. The record follows The Speed of Nature in 2024 and the 2025 single “Flag,” continuing a catalog that has evolved from intimate indie folk into piano writing, atmospheric production, pop, jazz, and electronic color.
